Expertise
Subject areas
Starting my editing career in music publishing in 1985, I am able to edit and write on all areas of the classical repertoire. Since moving into reference publishing, I have built on and expanded my existing interests inthe humanities, physical geography, astronomy, and the history of science.
To give a flavour of the subjects in which I'm comfortable working, here
are the categories in which I commissioned, edited, or wrote articles for
Encarta Encyclopedia at various points over a five-year period. These are
all subjects in which I have an extensive and abiding interest beyond my
work.
- Architecture & Monuments
- Astronomy & Space Science
- Cinema
- Environment
- Exploration & Explorers
- Islands
- Maps & Mapmaking
- Mountains & Uplands
- Music (history, theory, terminology)
- Musicians & Composers
|
- Musical Instruments
- North American History
- Oceans & Seas
- Parks & Nature Reserves
- People in History
- Photography
- Rivers, Lakes, & Waterways
- Scientists & Inventors
- Transport

Developing these interests, I later commissioned an Encyclopedia
of the Arctic, an Encyclopedia of 19th-Century Photography,
and an Encyclopedia of Chamber Music (all for Fitzroy Dearborn
Publishers).
Computing skills
- Completely fluent in Word, including tracked changes/markup and advanced techniques.
- Familiar with all Microsoft Office applications.
- Work frequently in Quark and Framemaker.
- My extensive experience in use of Access-based databases means I am able to turn my hand to compiling research information involving large-scale data capture, or data-entry work. As a project administrator, I'm adept at creating my own tables, forms, and queries, meaning I can take on coordinating roles for large-scale (e.g. multi-contributor) projects.
Language skills
A working knowledge of Italian and written French.
